The 3G Network is Retiring

Here’s what that might mean for you

By the end of 2025, mobile providers across Aotearoa will be switching off their 3G networks to make way for faster, more reliable 4G and 5G services. While this change will bring better coverage and performance in the long run, we know it might mean an unexpected upgrade for some of our customers—and that can feel like a big step.

At Noel Leeming, we’re here to help you navigate the change. If your current mobile phone or device relies on 3G, you will no longer be able to connect to a New Zealand 3G network once the 3G network is switched off. That’s why now is a good time to check if you’re 4G or 5G ready.

We can guide you through your options and help you find a solution that fits your needs and budget—whether that’s a new phone, SIM card, or just some friendly advice.
